Cardiff and Vale College (@CAVC) A Levels student Katie Mavroudis-Stephens has been praised by the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent for the role she has played during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katie, who is also a Cadet Flight Sergeant, has been appointed to the role of Lord Lieutenant Cadet for 2021 by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE. The role, which lasts for a year, includes attendance with the Brigadier, who acts as the Queen’s representative, at a number of official functions such as Remembrance events, Royal visits and parades.

The 17-year-old from Hengoed is a Flight Sergeant of 2353 (Ystrad Mynach) Squadron. Katie was among those appointed as Lord Lieutenant Cadet for the way she has been a “tower of strength” for her fellow cadets during the pandemic, ensuring each them has had a support network in place to help with their mental wellbeing.

Her career highlights as a cadet include attending the Royal International Air Tattoo and aerospace camps in the UK as well as overseas training in Cyprus, Belgium, France and Italy.

Cardiff and Vale College Deputy Principal Sharon James said:

“We would all like to congratulate Katie on this amazing accolade, which will lead to some life-changing experiences for her. At the College we believe strongly in the wellbeing of all of the CAVC Family, so seeing one of our learners take this approach into her life outside of the classroom is truly inspirational.”
