Cardiff and Vale College partners with RAF to offer top flight HR training
Cardiff and Vale College and the Royal Air Force Personnel Support (HR) Branch have joined forces to launch a new learning initiative for RAF service personnel, both regular and reserves.
The College will deliver a Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) programme of HR courses for the RAF across the UK. The blended learning courses will feature online distance learning and face to face lessons with the College’s industry expert lecturers.
The CIPD Level 5 Certificate in Human Resource Management for Military Personnel offers a flexible route to a widely recognised professional qualification that can lead to membership of the CIPD. It forms part of the RAF’s commitment to providing career development for personnel who are currently serving, as well as boosting the post-serving qualifications of those who are leaving the RAF.
In addition to the core delivery of the course via online or face to face lessons, students can book bespoke tutorial sessions with their course tutor by Skype, Face Time or telephone to support each module. The flexible approach means that the course can be completed over two years, or in as little as eight months.
RAF Personnel Support Branch Advisor Wing Commander Steve Parkes, HonDUniv, Chartered FCIPD, said: “Throughout its 100 years the RAF has always been at the leading edge of technological advancement. The digital age provides a unique opportunity for learning, and by maximising the effective use of modern technology and IT delivery platforms our personnel can access quality qualifications at every stage of their career.
“Importantly, this technology provides the flexibility for our personnel to manage when, where and how quickly they complete their studies. I am delighted therefore that following negotiations with Cardiff and Vale College we are able to launch a Level 5 Certificate, CIPD accredited course in Human Resource Management.
“Studying higher level qualifications not only enhances the individual’s professional qualifications and hence ability to provide broader understanding of evolving HR policy and practice while serving in the military, but also provides valued transferable HR skills for transition into the private sector. I would like to thank CAVC for their very positive engagement, willingness to understand the demands of today’s military and flexibility in tailoring the course to maximise the benefit to the Personnel Support (HR) Branch and Trade.”
Cardiff and Vale College Deputy Principal Sharon James said: “We are delighted to be working with the RAF – to enter into this partnership during its Centenary Year is a huge honour for us. At the College, we understand the need for flexible learning solutions and the mixture of distance learning and face to face sessions this Level 5 CIPD course offers will help RAF personnel achieve their qualifications at a time and pace that will be best suited for them individually.
“It is exciting to help the RAF HR team professionalise and gain the skills, knowledge and tools that will support the service. This CIPD qualification and potential membership will also increase their opportunities to advance and progress both in and outside of the RAF.”
