Cardiff and Vale College goes with the FLO to promote period dignity
Cardiff and Vale College (@CAVC) has entered into a new partnership to promote period dignity and ensure no-one misses out on college opportunities because of a lack of access to period products.
The College has joined with FLO, providers of organic and natural menstrual care, to provide free access to products for CAVC students. A women-owned business that donates 5% of its profits to girls and women in need, FLO also donates products to various UK organisations supporting vulnerable communities.
CAVC students can log in to the FLO website, enter a special code, and order their free products right away. These include organic cotton applicator and non-applicator tampons, as well as bamboo pads and liners, which will be delivered to the learners’ doorsteps.
“We’re thrilled that the Cardiff and Vale College team has chosen us for their period dignity scheme,” FLO co-founder Tara Chandra said. “Our mission has always been to inspire people to feel confident and empowered about their messiest bodily moments – and periods are known to be one of the most taboo topics of our lives, especially during our teenage years.
“We hope that this partnership will make CAVC learners feel supported through their personal journeys with periods and offer them one less worry in their daily routines. By supplying digital vouchers for products delivered directly at home, as well as offering on-campus provisions when learners return to campus, we hope that we’ll help them become confident that periods should not be a reason to feel ashamed or to miss out on school, and we’re incredibly grateful that we get to share in on these values with Cardiff and Vale College in such an impactful way.”
Cardiff and Vale College Dean of Learner Journey James Donaldson said:
“I am delighted that we have launched this new period dignity campaign. Working with FLO, we are offering free sanitary products for learners across all of our campuses.
“Period poverty can have a huge impact on college attendance and also performance. No-one should miss out on the opportunities Further Education can offer through a lack of access to sanitary products, and that is why we’re so glad to be working on this convenient and empowering service that FLO so kindly provides.”
