Cardiff and Vale College and Admiral join forces to offer business apprenticeships
Cardiff and Vale College has joined forces with local employer Admiral to offer an apprenticeship programme that will develop the skills required to progress in the financial sector.
The Admiral Business Administration Apprenticeship will offer people the opportunity to earn while they learn with the Cardiff-based insurance specialist. As they progress, the apprentices will build the skills needed for a career in the finance and professional sector at the same time as gaining necessary qualifications.
CAVC and Admiral have collaborated closely on the programme to ensure that it offers the training and qualifications that meet the skills required by the individual apprentices and that Admiral requires. The College recently won a UK-wide Association of Colleges Beacon Award for its apprenticeship provision.
Based at Admiral’s Cardiff headquarters, the apprenticeship will cover many areas of the company’s business. This will present the apprentices with unique opportunities to experience life working in a large international company that has offices in seven countries, more than 8,000 staff and 4m customers.
Focusing on professional customer care and product management, tasks will include customer liaison and sales. The apprentices will work with Admiral’s customers as well as internal teams.
Apprentices will each have a designated Admiral mentor and access to the College’s facilities in its landmark City Centre Campus which is based in the heart of the Cardiff Financial Services Enterprise Zone. The scheme is set to be expanded in the New Year with the addition of Level 3 and Level 4 IT apprentices who will receive training in the College’s state-of-the-art risual Microsoft Academy, the only one in Wales.
Liz James Mahoney, Admiral Academy Manager, said: “Admiral are proud to have partnered with Cardiff and Vale College to offer our new apprentice scheme.
“It is important to us that we attract and develop talent to our business to continue our ongoing success. The high quality of support and training offered by the College made them an easy choice to work with and we are very excited to be welcoming our first apprentices from this scheme in January.”
CAVC Dean of Work Based Learning Andy Whitcombe said: “Cardiff and Vale College and Admiral have formed a collaborative partnership to provide excellent opportunities for young people to develop vital skills for a career in the financial and professional services industry while in paid employment.
“This apprenticeship will combine on-the-job training with study towards an industry standard qualification. It is truly innovative and offers a real alternative to academic learning.”
Cardiff and Vale College Deputy Principal Kay Martin said: “At Cardiff and Vale College we believe strongly in apprenticeships and the impact they can have on business and individuals as well as the growth of the economy. The growth over recent years in areas such as life insurance is something that we as a college are working to support.
“Apprenticeships are beneficial for everyone; the apprentice gains skills while learning in the workplace, the employers gains someone with experience who can add instant value and that in turn boosts the wider economy. The College will continue to work with employers such as Admiral to ensure that work based learning provides the skills they need while being of maximum worth to the learners themselves.”
