Burton and South Derbyshire College students celebrate at HE Graduation

On Friday 25th October 2019, the latest group of Higher Education (HE) students from Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) celebrated their graduation at The Hilton, St George’s Park.

In keeping with tradition, the students wore full academic dress and had official photographs taken in the grounds of St. George’s Park prior to the celebrations. The caps and gowns set the scene for the formal proceedings, which created a buzz of excitement amongst graduands and guests.

During the ceremony at The Hilton, students were presented with certificates to mark their success in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including honours degrees; foundation degrees; higher national diplomas; higher national certificates and professional qualifications. Students’ families and a range of VIP guests joined the celebrations to mark the end of their courses, as well as the beginning of the new opportunities that graduating can bring.

Contemporary Creative Practice student, Holly Fyson was presented with the overall HE Learner of the Year Award for her achievements throughout her studies, from Level 4 to degree level. During her course, Holly took part in a project to transform the College’s Sensory Room, creating an interactive and engaging learning space for Foundation Learning students. She also used her talent to design a bespoke, realistic and innovative college nursery teaching space for Childcare students to develop their practical skills.

The ceremony also saw the College presenting Marvin Cooke, Managing Director of Toyota Manufacturing UK and Noreen Oliver MBE, Founder of the Burton Addiction Centre with honorary fellowships.
