Bradford College hosts Police and Crime Commissioner

The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner visited Bradford College to discuss community cohesion.

Mark Burns-Williamson, who has been the PCC for West Yorkshire since 2012, is accountable for policing and community safety across country.

He spent time in college chatting with staff at the Student Base.

Nick Koral, who oversees the Student Base, thanked the commissioner for his attendance and said it was a productive meeting.

“We had a very useful and informative discussion exploring how the work of the Base can further contribute to fostering community cohesion, which is a key priority the West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Plan,” he said.

“We look forward to further conversations and greatly value the insight that was provided.  

“The work of the Base also engages significantly with the key priorities identified within the Bradford Children, Young people and Families Plan.

“The Student Base provides opportunities for students to get together, build connections and friendships, and provide peer support among themselves. This can build inclusiveness and empathy amongst students fostering a sense of community both within and outside of the college, especially for students who are more vulnerable.

“Opportunities for learning can occur through the development of practical knowledge and life skills. This provides opportunity for students to build confidence and self-esteem.

“A programme of extracurricular group work opportunities is also offered to students, all of which contribute significantly in enabling students to achieve their aspirations and enhance their learning gain.”
