Barton Peveril’s Schools Art Competition Goes Global

@BartonPeveril Sixth Form College’s annual Schools Art Competition received 279 entries from over 70 different schools, from around the world, this year. As well as entries from across Hampshire’s schools, the College competition received entries from pupils as far afield as France and India.

The competition is open to pupils in all secondary school year groups and tasks entrants with submitting a photo of their best piece of artwork, in any medium, completed either in school or at home.

The competition is split into two categories: Years 7 and 8, and Years 9, 10 and 11. The winner and two runners up in each category have their work showcased in the College’s annual Art Show and receive a monetary prize for their efforts.

In the Year 7 and 8 category, the winner was Year 8 Swanmore College pupil Amelie Brind. Year 8 pupils Megan Long and Sarika Ravi, from Wildern School and The Grammar School Leeds respectively, were the runners up.

In the Year 9, 10 and 11 category, the winner was Year 10 Brookfield Community School pupil Olivia Ditchburn. The runners up are Year 9 pupils Maddie Jenkins, who was homeschooled, and Niamh Elizabeth Kelly from Blairgowrie High School.

Barton Peveril’s Director of Art, Lynne Milton, commented on the competition:

‘We received a wonderfully diverse range of entries this year covering a range of subject matter and media from traditional painting and drawing to digital art. The winners have demonstrated a sophisticated level of skill that belies their age group.’
