Barton Peveril’s Inaugural Art Competition

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College have successfully run their inaugural Art Competition, for Hampshire’s school pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11. A large number of pupils entered the competition, with entries by pupils from 17 of the county’s schools.

For the competition, which will now run annually, pupils were required to submit a photo of their best piece of artwork and could submit work created either in class or for fun at home. The winner was announced at Barton Peveril’s Art Show, which featured a range of work from Barton Peveril students across all the art disciplines.

Crofton School pupil Harriet Livingston won the competition, with The Romsey School’s Luke Ketteringham and Wildern School’s Nikoletta Homoki both runners up.

Speaking on the pupils and the competition, Barton Peveril Director of Art Lynne Milton said: “We were delighted to receive a wide range of fantastic, high quality pieces of art from such a variety of local schools. It is exciting for us to see what talent the College can expect to welcome, in the coming years.”

The Art Competition winner, Harriet Livingston, spoke on her success: “Winning the art competition was an indescribable feeling. My work was inspired by an artist I studied as a part of my GCSE work so it was so weird having my art recognised like that and seeing up on display for the public to see and comment on!”

The schools with entries were: Boundary Oak, Priestlands School, Wildern School, Chamberlayne College for the Arts, Applemore College, The Romsey School, The Mountbatten School, Swanmore College, The Westgate School, Crofton School, Oasis Academy: Sholing, Cams Hill School, Crestwood Community School, The Toynbee School, Hounsdown School, and the Ballard School.
