Barton Peveril’s Director of Maths Nominated for University Award
@bartonpeveril’s Director of Mathematics and Computing, Kyle Evans, has been recognised in the @UniofBath Teachers’ Awards 2021.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate teachers who have gone above and beyond to support their students, guiding them on their path to university, inspiring them to aim high, offering pastoral care to support their well-being and nurturing their talents by providing them with exceptional learning opportunities.
This year the University of Bath received more nominations than ever before for the Teachers’ Awards because of how much students have valued their teachers’ resilience, empathy, and adaptability in the face of the COVID pandemic up-turning education.
Evans was nominated for the Teachers’ Awards by student Rebecca Tyrrell, who felt the Barton Peveril teacher made a real and ongoing difference in shaping their future pathway and had a genuine and lasting impact as a teacher.
As well as excelling in the classroom, Evans has also written his own numeracy-based children’s book titled Here Come the Numbers and performs a maths-themed comedy music routine at festivals including Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Speaking on Kyle Evans, Rebecca Tyrrell said:
“Every Monday, Kyle helped me pass the Oxford MAT and tackle Oxford interview questions. Every Thursday, he taught me the Extra Pure module in Further Maths, which was not needed but would help me for studying Maths at university and give me a higher mark in Further Maths if another module did not go as well.
“Kyle also lent out Maths books. They gave more of an insight into Maths and helped me to write my personal statement and with the Oxford interviews. He looked at my personal statement, gave me helpful advice on the Maths aspects and what universities are looking for in a Maths personal statement.
“He suggested going to the ‘It All Adds Up’ event at Oxford University to promote more women in Maths and the Winchester Maths Summer School, which I ended up getting into.
“Kyle was incredibly supportive; I wouldn’t be as confident a mathematician without him. This award will show Kyle how much the students he teaches are really grateful for his support.”
