Barton Peveril’s American Footballer Sets Sights on the States
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College (@bartonpevril) student Rob Davey, who represents Great Britain in American Football, has his sights set on the United States after being selected to trial for the National Football League (NFL) Academy in London.
Davey, who previously attended Hounsdown School prior to joining Barton Peveril, first began playing American Football after joining the Solent Seahawks Academy in Southampton in 2018.
After a successful first season with the club in 2019, Davey was noticed by scouts from the Great Britain American Football team during the national final of the British American Football League.
Following a successful trial, and his continued success on the pitch with the Great Britain team, Davey has been scouted once again. The student will trial virtually for the NFL Academy in London and, if successful, will have the opportunity to transform his sporting career by applying to play American Football at a College in the United States of America.
The trials are taking place online and involve Davey submitting videos of himself in matches, in his bid to impress staff at the national Academy.
Pursuing the American Dream
Speaking on his success so far, and his plans for the future, Rob Davey said:
“When I first started playing American Football I never knew how it could have impacted my life the way it has. Starting out it was just a hobby which I was having fun doing but when I was given the opportunity to take it to the next level – that’s when it all changed for me.
“Being given the chance to represent your nation is something to be proud of, which you take with pride as it’s a whole new experience to anything you’ve done before. This has then led me to trial for the NFL Academy in London to try and pursue the dream of getting a scholarship to the United states and to play for a Division 1 college.”
Barton Peveril’s Director of Sport, Luke Hampton, commented on Davey’s success:
“We’re very proud of Rob’s success so far, in his American Football journey. We wish him all the best for his trial and cannot wait to see where he takes his new sport next. It’s always a pleasure to see Barton Peveril students compete in such a wide range of disciplines at such a high level.”
