Barnsley College raises over £900 for charity

Students and staff at @BarnsleyCollege have raised £943 for Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids fundraising programme which aims to improve the lives of over 19,000 children and young people across the region.

The Cash for Kids initiative aims to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged or disabled children and young people across South Yorkshire who are affected by poverty, neglect, illness or have additional needs. The money that is raised stays in the local area and focusses on alleviating poverty, supporting disability and improving quality of life.

 The College’s curriculum departments each raised money in their own special way; Beauty students had their very own Christmas jumper day, Childcare and Education Professions students hosted a virtual movie night and Foundation Learning students managed a raffle to win a chocolate bouquet.

 Staff also played a crucial role in the College’s fundraising efforts as they facilitated events for the students as well as donating over £200 individually.

Melinda Schofield, Station Director at Hallam FM, said:

“This year when looking for commercial partners for our Cash for Kids initiative, Barnsley College came on board immediately and wanted to work with the team to help support the children of South Yorkshire. Having worked closely with them on many other campaigns historically and even more closely having to adapt through the Covid-19 crisis, we knew they had a great understanding of the importance of local charity and would fully get behind supporting us at Hallam FM. 

“Their fundraising efforts have been outstanding. This year we have been able to support over 19,000 underprivileged children in our area meaning that all these children woke up to presents on Christmas morning. Their support is very much appreciated and we look forward to working with the College again on similar campaigns in the not too distant future.”
