Back of the net for rising star Megan
Megan Neill is currently a 2nd year student on the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science course at South West College. She is one of the brightest prospects in Northern Irish football at this time. Representing Northern Ireland at Under 17 in their successful Euro 2023 qualifiers in Israel, stepping up to Under 19 representation, and signing for Belfast based giants Glentoran F.C. in the past year have been just some of the outstanding highlights for Megan.
Megan is a talented and dedicated sportsperson and from her time at Aughnacloy College, she had the opportunity to play for the college’s football and hockey teams.
Megan chose SWC after 5 years there as she believed that it was the best route for her to go down and would provide all the support required to progress in her passion to turn sport into a career.
Megan explains
“My time at SWC has been fantastic. The lecturers are great and always there to help whether it’s in the classroom or outside it. We had day trips away with the sports teams such as the handball tournaments and they were always a pleasure to be a part of.”
Megan shared how much the college supported her in heading away with the Northern Ireland team:
“There was always communication whilst I was away with the Northern Ireland team including notes to help keep up-to-date each week as well as checking in to see how I was getting on. The support I enjoyed from home was second to none thanks to my lecturers and family.”
She also spoke with pride of the amazing success she has had playing for Glentoran already at this early stage of her career:
“Glentoran have helped me so much over the past year and I’ve enjoyed every moment of my journey there so far. One of the best moments was winning the Under 19 NIWFA League as captain of the team. Another was scoring my first senior goal and playing for the senior team. I hope for many more enjoyable years at the club and thank you to all the coaches and staff at Glentoran for the impact you have all had on my football career so far.”
South West College is delighted to have a talented young sports star attending the college. Megan spoke about the flexibility in study to enhance her skills and to facilitate her ambitions in football:
“My lecturers at SWC Dungannon have had a massive impact on my football career. There have been days where I had to leave class early to make training and all my lecturers backed me the whole way in allowing me to do this. They always wanted the best for me inside and outside of college and training in other sports during classes has added to my abilities on the football pitch as well. I would fully recommend SWC to everyone, they will be by your side rooting for your success, and you couldn’t ask for better support”.
Megan is open to what the future has in store but knows for sure it’s a sporting career she is keen to be in and she can’t wait to find out what the future holds in store for herself and sport
