Allan Brothers welcome students to Berwick factory
Students from the Carpentry and Joinery – an Introduction course at Borders College were recently invited to Allan Brothers in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, where they enjoyed an in-depth tour of the factory and an insight into high quality timber window and door manufacturing.
John Farrish, the group’s guide on the day, explained the processes involved in each area of the factory and showed the students all aspects of manufacturing from raw material, specifications and wood machining to paint finish, assembly, glazing and pre-delivery.
The students were also given a talk on sustainability – John explained that all the waste wood is used for heating the factory, cutting down overall heating costs to the company and reducing their carbon footprint in turn.
The tour concluded with the students having an opportunity to get hands on with the finished products in the Allan Brothers showroom.
On behalf of the group, Lecturer Liam Thomson said:
“Thanks to John for giving up his time to show us round, it was a great visit!”
