IfA Announce Apprenticeship Funding Results
“The Secretary of State has approved our funding band recommendations for a further 17 standards following review, which have now been updated.” said a spokesperson for the Institute for Apprenticeships.
“Our priority throughout has been to ensure standards have the appropriate funding band to support high quality delivery and provide value for money for employers and the taxpayer, whilst ensuring consistency in the way older and newer standards are funded.
“Throughout the process, we have worked collaboratively with trailblazers to ensure the review was carried out in an open way and have worked hard to resolve any concerns about changes to funding levels.”
The Institute is reviewing the funding bands for apprenticeships to ensure they are consistent with funding bands assigned more recently; are based on the most up-to-date information we have available; and allow as many employers as possible to access high quality apprenticeships.
This follows the introduction earlier this year of a new process for determining funding bands, and an increase in the number of funding bands from 15 to 30.
These changes resulted in a difference between how older and newer standards were allocated funding bands, which is why the review was needed.
The review aims to identify the most appropriate funding band to support high-quality delivery; provide value for money for employers and taxpayers; and ensure consistency in the way older and newer standards are funded.
The Institute expects the review to be completed by Summer 2019.
We began reviewing the funding bands for 31 existing apprenticeship standards in May 2018. In December 2018 we announced a further 30 standards that will be reviewed at the request of the Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills.
The Secretary of State initially approved our reviewed funding band recommendations for 12 of the 31 and the outcomes were announced in October.
A further 17 reviewed funding band recommendations have now been approved and officially announced.
