Walk of the Dandelion Project Visits Richard Taunton
On Monday 20 September, Luke Brown Company visited Richard Taunton Sixth Form College as part of their ‘Walk of the Dandelion’ project, supported by Proteus Theatre and Arts Council England.
Luke and three company members brought with them Daniel, a 9ft puppet whose story is that of survival. Daniel carries with him a dandelion – a symbol of hope, strength and resilience – and his purpose is to spread these messages to audiences young and old.
During the visit, students were able to gain an insight into the growth and development of this inter-generational project. Art & Design students sketched the dancers and puppets in action, whilst Performing Arts students were able to take Daniel on a journey around the college grounds.
Lisa Fernandez-Adams, Director of Learning, said:
‘It was fantastic that our students were able to take part in the research and development phase of this project. We look forward to supporting Luke Brown Dance further, and introducing ‘Walk of the Dandelion’ to more students across the Lighthouse Learning Trust.’
In addition to seeing this creative work in action, students were able to focus on themes of well being and mindfulness. They spent time making their own dandelions and dedicated a message of strength to themselves. Additionally, they penned a message of hope that will be shared with residents at a local care home.
