Details
Following submission of the centre judgements (candidate grades and rank orders) to awarding organisations, but before results were issued, we conducted some research with teaching staff to understand their views and experiences of the judgement process using both surveys and interviews to get insights from as many people as possible, as well as in-depth detail from a smaller number.
We received over 1,200 partial or complete responses to the survey giving an overview of the process, the sources of information used to make objective judgements for candidates, and the confidence in the judgements made. We also interviewed 54 teaching staff representing a variety of roles and centre types, and with involvement in a variety of qualifications and subjects. These interviews allowed us to fully understand their experience and opinions in depth and detail. This work contributes to the literature on how multi-dimensional assessment judgements are made and details the processes in place to support accurate and fair centre judgements, as well as the challenges staff faced. In addition, some insights have been helpful in designing guidance for staff involved in deciding the summer 2021 teacher assessed grades.
