Barnsley College student captures her future

Barnsley College student, Jayden Palmer, has turned her childhood passion into a career by launching her own photography business.

Jayden decided to create her business, Just Perfect Photography, with the help of iTrust, the College’s business start-up programme exclusively for students.

After having a keen interest in taking photos of the sky as a child and branching out and shooting animals as a teenager, Jayden took the leap and shot her first wedding at 16 years of age. Just Perfect Photography has now been established for two months.

Jayden, who studies Level 3 Photography, said:

“I’ve always had an interest in photography and thought about pursuing a career in animal and portrait photography initially. Then I learnt more about the industry through my College course and became interested in shooting occasions such as weddings and sporting events.

“I knew I wanted to work in the industry but wasn’t sure about starting my own business until I realised how good it can be when you work for yourself. By utilising the help from the College’s Enterprise department, I was thoroughly supported to get my business off the ground and I definitely recommend their services to any student who is thinking about being their own boss.”

Barnsley College’s Enterprise department is home to the iTrust initiative, a joint venture between the College, The Barnsley Chronicle and The Business Village, which supports students interested in starting up a business in Barnsley. Students who choose to receive support from iTrust will have access to an array of information and guidance such as mentoring from industry specialists and local businesses and financial investments.

When Jayden isn’t studying at College, she has dedicated her time to shoot weddings and find commission work photographing animals and portraits. As part of the iTrust programme, Jayden will also receive a grant of up to £250 which she will use to purchase more equipment such as a telephoto lens which will allow her to expand her services and widen her product range.
