Newtown College Drives into 2022 with New Electric cars for the Motor Vehicle Department
NPTC Group of Colleges Motor Vehicle department began 2022 with the eagerly awaited delivery of four new electric vehicles. The cars – from Nigel Pugh Motors in Newtown and Antony Motors in Aberystwyth arrived at Newtown’s Motor vehicle department to support the learning and training opportunities for new EV technologies.
The department has already been providing Electric and Hybrid Vehicle training since the beginning of 2020 after the purchase of a dedicated training rig in 2019. Now learners will have even more opportunities to learn about the vehicles and their latest technologies.
The department has just been shortlisted for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Outstanding Contribution to the Motor Industry Award – celebrating automotive excellence. The winner of which will be announced in March 2022.
Lecturer Dan Prichard said: ‘It’s important that our students have access to a range of resources that they will encounter as they progress on to employment and this resource will also be used as an example for the dedicated Electric Vehicle training IMI courses. We are grateful to Nigel Pughs and Antony Motors for sourcing these vehicles.’
Head of School for Engineering Carl James said: ‘Our Motor Vehicle department has been leading the way in delivering training for electric and hybrid safety and maintenance and we want to continue to develop this program. Therefore, we have targeted investment into resources to support this area. Using the latest technology and dedicated lecturers we are looking forward to the year ahead.’
