Gradescope by Turnitin launches in Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish
Popular for helping educators cut grading time in half and digitizing paper-based work, the software now fully operates in five new languages, in addition to English
*Update as of 9 May 2022: Gradescope by Turnitin is available in Portuguese [Brazilian]
Global education technology company Turnitin announced the release of assessment solution Gradescope by Turnitin in four new languages. In addition to English, the software now fully operates in Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Turkish. Gradescope was founded in 2014 at UC Berkeley and joined Turnitin in 2018. The development of new software interfaces and content support for these languages is the result of requests from universities and educators globally.
Through Gradescope, educators easily build, administer, organize, and grade handwritten, paper-based, digital, and code assignments. Gradescope supports in-person, remote, and hybrid learning for all subject areas, assessment lengths, and answer types. Educators can use their existing assignments and exams or build new content using the platform.
A study conducted by Gradescope showed that the platform can cut grading time in half, as AI is used to auto-group similar responses so that graders can quickly grade and give feedback. To increase evaluation fairness, educators can enable anonymous grading, which hides or removes student identifiers during the grading workflow. With Gradescope’s dynamic rubric, instructors can adjust scales as they grade and automatically apply new rules to already graded assignments. Further, Gradescope digitizes paper-based and handwritten work which helps classrooms with limited access to technology experience similar benefits of quick grading, personalized feedback, and scaled courses to technologically advanced classrooms.
“As a company that supports educators, students, and researchers in 140 countries, our tools must reflect our clients and be customizable to their individual needs,” says Turnitin Chief Product Officer Annie Chechitelli. “Turnitin is on a mission to help educators improve learning experiences and outcomes for all students, but first, the classroom tools that help educators facilitate such learning must be accessible and inclusive—such as, by being in students’ native languages. We are excited to deliver the Gradescope interface in four new languages to our Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Turkish speaking educators and students to help make teaching and learning more effective and personal.”
Gradescope’s innovations and impact have been recognized by Bett Awards, EdTech Breakthrough, EdTech Digest, SaaS, SIIA CODiE, Tech & Learning, and more. To date, 624 million questions have been graded through the platform. Globally, more than 110,000 educators and 2.7 million students from 2,600 institutions have used Gradescope to maximize learning from assessments.
