Fife College and the University of Edinburgh partner up to engineer new opportunities for students
Adam Smith Scholarships, part of Fife College (@FifeCollege), has launched a new scholarship for engineering students in partnership with the University of Edinburgh (@EdinburghUni).
The Fife College and University of Edinburgh Engineering Project Scholarship has been introduced for College students who join one of three cutting edge engineering projects led by the University.
Designed for students who are looking to move onto degree level study after their college course, the scholarship offers a £500 award to help students with resources or materials for their studies.
Students are eligible for the scholarship award once they join one of three projects: Endeavor (University of Edinburgh Rocketry Team), Edinburgh University Formula Student (EUFS) or HYPED (Hyperloop Edinburgh).
The Rocketry team project provides students with the skills and experience to make significant contributions to humanity’s goal of exploring the cosmos, understanding more about climate change as well as helping the world make progress towards the UN’s sustainable development goals.
EUFS gives students the opportunity to design and build race cars and join one of two race teams – the IC Team (Design and Manufacture) and the AI Team (developing artificial intelligence for driverless cars).
The third project is HYPED Hyperloop Edinburgh, the UK’s number one hyperloop team. Dedicated to developing the concept of hyperloop and inspiring future generations about engineering, the HYPED team have received awards from SpaceX, Virgin Hyperloop One and Institution of Civil Engineers.
Lyn Gold, Scholarship and Alumni Engagement Lead at Fife College, said:
“We are delighted to partner with the University of Edinburgh to create these opportunities for our engineering students.
“The projects are extremely exciting and we hope that the accompanying scholarship award will provide students with the extra boost they need to support their studies and reward them for their time and dedication to their chosen project.
“I would encourage all our full-time students who are eligible, particularly those interested in moving onto university after their course, to visit the College website and find out more about how to apply.”
Conchúr Ó Brádaigh, Head of School of Engineering at The University of Edinburgh said:
“The University of Edinburgh and the School of Engineering are really excited to be partnering with Fife College on the Engineering Project Scholarships. These Scholarships support great opportunities for College and University students to share knowledge, learn and work together on innovative projects that allow them to showcase their skills and talent.
“Feedback from students working on last year’s projects highlighted the real benefits of this collaboration, and we are keen to enable more students to benefit from this experience. Therefore I am pleased to announce additional funding for a further two scholarships.”
Adam Smith Scholarships, part of Fife College, is one of the largest college scholarship programmes in Scotland, awarding thousands of pounds each year to support students, develop opportunities, open doors and transform lives.
