Ukrainian student Yuriy Shostask is relishing the chance to develop his passion for metal sculpting further, having secured a place in the upcoming Introduction to MIG Welding programme.

In preparation for the course. Yuriy is currently studying the English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course, which has helped him improve his English and break down communication barriers.

Yuriy commented:

“Completing the welding course will hopefully enable me to resume making art again here in Scotland. What has made this progression route possible is my English studies at Borders College, and I would like to thank those who have helped me.”

Yuriy’s Lecturer, Tosca Oldfield, said:

“Yuriy brought his portfolio into class, and it became clear he is an excellent artist in metal welding and sculpting. I am delighted to have been in a position to assist him in his ESOL studies and wish him well with his aim to undertake further welding certificates here at Borders College.”
