Engineering department at The Henley College receives 3D printer from local business

This week, students at The Henley College (@henleycol) received a generous donation of a state-of-the-art 3D printer from Origin, the UK’s leading specialist manufacturer of bespoke aluminium Bi-folding Doors and Windows, based in High Wycombe. 

The printer uses a powerful laser allowing it to print fine detail, which will enable students to use it for creating a wide range of products as part of their coursework.

Engineering Teacher Noel Wood said: 

“Additive Manufacturing (AM) is currently suffering from a skills shortage, and this has been one of the barriers to the wider adoption of AM. Origin are helping us at Henley to fill this gap, allowing students to have a wider understanding of AM technologies and the skills needed to use them.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the donation was attended by Origin’s COO Victoria Brocklesby, the College’s Principal Satwant Deol, Noel Wood and Engineering students who were looking forward to using this innovative technology to help them prepare for their futures as engineers.

Stevey Knight said, “I am really enjoying the Engineering course at The Henley College, which I chose because of its reputation. I’m excited to be able to use the new printer as it will be a real opportunity to help with my learning going forwards.” 

Fellow student Antoni Kaminski went on to say:

“We are really grateful to Origin, and think this printer is pretty cool! In the future I hope to have a career in either architectural engineering or robotics, so feel this would really enhance my learning.” 

Victoria Brocklesby, COO at Origin, said:  

“We are delighted to have been able to provide the Engineering Department with a state-of-the-art new 3D printer. We are passionate about supporting the next generation of talent in our local area and we hope that this donation will help students further their education and achieve their goals.”

Speaking about the generous donation, Principal and Chief Executive Satwant Deol said: 

“At The Henley College we are ambitious for our Engineering students and have growth plans in place to meet the skills demand from employers. We are immensely grateful to have received this 3D Printer from our partner Origin and I am sure that Victoria’s speech today will help to inspire them in their future careers.”
