A first ever membership-led initiative exclusively for the family learning sector has opened for registrations from across the United Kingdom.

The National Centre for Family Learning will build a community of professionals and practitioners, from delivery to strategy level, that are working with families in any learning context.

Created by the social inclusion initiative Campaign for Learning, it will deliver high quality content, events, best practice sharing, and opportunities for collaboration, as well as acting as the authoritative voice for family learning at a policy level and championing the sector.

John Beattie, Deputy Director for Families at Campaign for Learning, said: “We estimate there are over 100,000 people inspiring families to learn together across the UK, however they are often disconnected – from policy, funding, and each other.

“We have listened to family practitioners and identified the need to create a community that brings everyone together, serves as a single voice for the family learning sector to policy makers and funders, and promotes an integrated approach to family learning. The National Centre for Family Learning will achieve all of those things.

“Our ambition is to unite the sector and support the individuals and organisations that are making a real difference to the lives of people in their communities, from local authorities, schools, children’s centres and early years providers to voluntary organisations, offender settings, museums, galleries, libraries and more.”

Campaign for Learning’s mission is to empower lifelong learning in all its forms, including through training programmes, research and delivery projects, and policy work. It forms part of the educational charity NCFE, operating independently but with a united core purpose and strong shared belief in the power of learning.

Philip Le Feuvre, Chief Strategy Officer at NCFE, said: “We need to bring together services that work with families in any learning context so they can unite, share best practice, develop relationships, and do what they do best – inspire families. Developing a culture of learning within families is incredibly important which is why we’re excited to support Campaign for Learning and its work to create the National Centre for Family Learning.”

Becoming a member of the National Centre for Family Learning is completely free. Whether you’re a teacher, health professional, librarian, or work with parents and children in any other setting, you’ll be able to access news, resources, training opportunities and networking events that are designed to support professional development.
