Film LBBD liaised with the Department for Education to arrange that Barking & Dagenham College’s facilities were used to film the advert.

Share Your Skills is a new campaign that calls on skilled professionals to share their valuable expertise and train the next generation of workers in their field by teaching in further education.

Yvonne Kelly, Principal & CEO of the College explains:

“It is fantastic that the Department for Education has funded this campaign on TV and social media to recruit more people into teaching in colleges and further education. Teaching in a college is such a fulfilling and varied career to enter, with lots of opportunities for development; many people don’t realise how straightforward it is to turn the skills they’ve learnt in their current or past careers into skills that can be utilised in a classroom or workshop.

“Barking & Dagenham College offers a range of options to study for a career in teaching that complements your real-life work skills. These include studying part-time or full time or being employed as an apprentice to become a learning and skills teacher.

A production crew visited the college in December to film the commercial at a variety of locations within the College and its East London Institute of Technology.

Two media students, Obafemi Odimayo, age 20 from Purfleet and and Ilie Gorea, age 22 from Dagenham were paid to work on the production as marshals. Thrilled with the experience, Ilie said:

It was a fantastic opportunity to be paid to work on a real production, the crew were really encouraging and the campaign really showcases the college’s brilliant facilities.”

“It was a fabulous opportunity for the students from Barking & Dagenham College to take part whilst filming the DfE commercial in borough. Barking & Dagenham’s Film and TV sector beautifully on the rise and a key anchor for East London  – Film Barking & Dagenham –  Make it Here.”

The campaign launched on 20 January and the advert can be watched on Twitter: https://twitter.com/educationgovuk/status/1484118335751086084
