Coventry’s most talented up-and-coming dancers to take centre stage at competition
Coventry’s most talented up-and-coming dancers will take centre stage this month to celebrate the return of live events and go toe-to-toe in a brand-new competition.
The Coventry College Dance Festival will see community dance groups from across the city bring together their most promising performers for an afternoon of friendly competition.
The event, led by Inspire Performing Arts at Coventry College, will take place on Sunday, March 20 at 3pm in the college’s professional dance studio, with Elite Dance Academy, Michelle Ahern School of Dance, Phaze 1 School of Dance, and the college’s own Inspire Performing Arts all hoping to be crowned the city’s top dancers.
Each group will have up to four choreographed routines critiqued by an experienced panel of judges, which includes London and Midlands-based dance and movement teacher Susan Priest, Leamington-based dance teacher Elly Herbert and Coventry College Performing Arts graduate and dance instructor Blossom Shaw.
Awards will be given out to the best performer, best personality and for the two best dance pieces.
Grace Rodgers, Dance Lecturer and Curriculum Lead for Creative and Digital at Coventry College said: “We’re thrilled to be able to host this brand-new event alongside some fantastic performance groups from across the city in one of the department’s first live events since the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions.
“Our learners have been working hard behind the scenes and getting together either virtually or in person when guidelines have permitted over the last couple of years, so we are delighted to be able to give them this outlet to perform alongside other likeminded individuals.
“We’d like to wish everyone the best of luck in their preparations and hope to see a packed audience of friends, family and supporters of the city’s grass roots arts organisations join us on the day.”
