BSDC scoops four global awards for teaching and learning excellence!

Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently scooped four prestigious awards at the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics’ (WFCP) World Congress in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The College won gold in the Teacher Professional Development category, silver in the Construction and Sustainability and Global Citizenship categories, and Ryan Halford, Deputy Principal, won bronze in the Outstanding Educator category.

The World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics Awards of Excellence recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions and accomplishments in the global colleges and polytechnics sector. They are an opportunity to shine a light on exceptional initiatives that strengthen applied learning and research outcomes.

The awards were part of the WFCP’s World Congress event, where practitioners from colleges throughout the world gathered to share best practice and learn from each other. In addition, two BSDC learners, Svitlana Zghurieva and Christian Modiga, attended the week-long ‘Youth Camp’, which brought together learners from across the world to look at some of the key challenges and issues facing education and how these could be resolved. The learners then had to present to the delegates at the end of the conference, sharing their ideas on how to tackle some of these issues.

Dawn Ward CBE DL, WFCP Board Chair commented: “Our awards of excellence acknowledge the greatest talent the world has within technical and vocational education. From our institutional and individual award winners, we bring together a best practice guide in the spirit of sharing, learning and inspiring others to put their organisations leaders and teams on a global stage.”

John Beaty, Principal and Chief Executive at BSDC said: “We are incredibly proud of the recognition BSDC has received at the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics World Congress. These awards highlight the exceptional work and dedication of our staff and students in areas critical to the future of education, including professional development, sustainability and global citizenship. It is an honour to see our efforts celebrated on a global level, and I want to congratulate all those involved. This achievement reflects our commitment to providing world-class education and inspiring the next generation of leaders and innovators.”
