South Thames College praises principal’s New Year honour

South Thames College has praised the outstanding work of its principal and chief executive, Sue Rimmer, after she was awarded an OBE for her services to local and national Further Education.

After taking the helm nine years ago, Ms Rimmer has helped South Thames go from ‘strength to strength’ so that it is now recognised as ‘Good’ by Ofsted with many outstanding features, a statement released by the college said.

Ms Rimmer is also an active member of several regional and national organisations, from the National External Advisory Group for funding bodies SFA and YPLA to education charity World Skills UK.

Commenting on her accolade, she said: “Further Education is an amazing sector to work in as it makes such a difference to the life chances of both young people and adults offering a real contribution to the local community.

“To have the work that you have done and the progress the college has made acknowledged in this way is a real honour and I feel very privileged.”
