Filton College teams up with housing charity
Filton College has partnered with housing charity 1625 Independent People to give construction apprentices hands on building repair experience.
The partnership will see groups of four to five learners undertake maintenance work on properties owned by Independent People, which provides housing, support and advice to young people, as part of their course.
In addition, young people housed by the charity will be given the opportunity to get a feel for the construction industry through tutored help with repairing their own properties.
“This partnership is a brilliant opportunity to help turn a raft of problems into positive outcomes for young people,” said Independent People chief executive Dom Wood.
George Ridd, head of construction at Filton college, said “this is a wonderful opportunity for our young apprentices to experience working in a fully commercial environment and gain the relevant experience necessary for the completion of their qualifications”.
