19 local pet owners offer a paw to help national pet therapy charity
Pet healthcare company Bob Martin plays key role in supporting Pets As Therapy’s volunteer recruitment drive
Leading pet healthcare company Bob Martin has helped charity partner Pets As Therapy recruit 19 new volunteers in South Wales, following a call out to pet lovers in the area.
In recognition of the brand’s 130th birthday, Bob Martin and Pets As Therapy have agreed a joint goal of recruiting 130 volunteers across the UK in 2022, and this is already off to a brilliant start thanks to the enthusiasm of local people.
The acquisition of these new volunteers will go a long way in helping Pets As Therapy meet a growing demand for its services.
Founded in 1983, Pets As Therapy is a national charity providing temperament-assessed therapy animals via a nationwide network of volunteers, enhancing the health and wellbeing in the community through its visiting service. The charity operates in prisons, schools, hospitals and care homes, and is in need of new cats and dogs to help continue offering this support.
Matthew Robinson, National Volunteer & Events Manager at Pets As Therapy said:
“Our volunteer pets come in all shapes and sizes and can be pedigree or crossbreed. All we ask is that they are friendly, calm, healthy, well-groomed, and love meeting new people! We also need volunteer pets to be at least nine months old, have up-to-date vaccinations, be wormed and protected against fleas.”
This partnership will also see Bob Martin provide market-leading range of pet healthcare products to Pets As Therapy to support the ongoing healthcare of the animals it works with.
Matthew continues: “There is also no set requirement on how often you need to undertake visits on behalf of Pets As Therapy, but regular visits are greatly appreciated by all those who receive them.”
Chris Socratous, pet expert at Bob Martin said: “The work Pets As Therapy do is really important to its service users, and it’s great to see the charity understand the incredible mental health benefits it can bring to some of the most vulnerable in our society.
“Volunteers and their pets bring comfort and companionship to people living in residential care who may feel isolated, confused and lonely. They support schools to help young people improve their literacy skills and encourage confidence and concentration in the classroom, and their hospital visits can aid a patient’s recovery and rehabilitation.
“We are so delighted to partner with such an innovative charity that does so much good in the community. If any more pet parents in the area have time to volunteer, we would definitely encourage them to do so.”
