Salford College of Further Education launch their Centre of Excellence in Construction and Engineering
On October 17, Salford College of Further Education will launch their Centre of Excellence in Construction and Engineering, at their City Skills campus.
The college has invested substantially in creating real-life working environments, to best prepare students for employment. They are an accredited BPEC Gas Training Centre, an accredited Whirlpool Training Centre, and the only Worcester Bosch Gold Linked College in Greater Manchester.
Further to this, they have added a motor vehicle course to their portfolio and this year have invested in a brand new, state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshop.
If you choose to begin your career in construction or engineering at Salford College, you’ll be taught by the best. Staff have extensive technical experience and well established industry links with partners across the region.
As well as boasting a whole host of full-time college courses, Salford College also offer apprenticeship pathways, enabling students to gain industry experience, all whilst achieving a relevant qualification. Students are supported entirely whatever direction they choose to take.
The department has an excellent track record of success. Adam McHaffie, an electrical apprentice, won Apprentice of the Year for in 2015/16, and the department holds the Greater Manchester Colleges Group award for plumbing.
Salford College of Further Education also have an unrivalled reputation for progression. Many students have gained employment in construction and some have gone on to start their own, successful businesses.
Staff are incredibly supportive and work with students to ensure that they develop not only practical skills required for industry but also employability and life skills. Students are given the opportunity to participate in work experience placements, competitions and a wide variety of trips and visits that both broaden their knowledge and develop their confidence in their chosen field.
This year students attended the NEC Construction Trade Fair, providing them with important networking opportunities, and Worcester Bosch, for exclusive training on gas boilers.
Whether students need support accessing funding or getting to college, or just need help with the transition from high school, Salford College have a full and dedicated pastoral support team, a free college bus service, and offer bursaries to support studies.
