Cardiff and Vale College helps Cardiff West Community High School pupils realise their ambitions
Cardiff and Vale College has welcomed the Year 7 pupils of Cardiff West Community High School to a special day designed to raise their aspirations and ambitions.
The 11 to 12-year-olds came to the College for an ‘Ambition Day’ of interactive sessions designed to give them a taste of what Further Education has to offer and to inspire them to meet their dreams. The 100 pupils had the opportunity to write down their aspirations and hopes for the future and seal them in special Ambition Jars, practice setting up and marketing their own cookie baking company, try out their woodworking skills at the College’s Cardiff Construction Training Centre and work with, race and battle with Lego robots in a technical challenge.
Cardiff West Community High School Year 7 pupil Samuel George said: “We did some amazing activities during our visit to Cardiff and Vale College. I really enjoyed the robot Lego and the woodwork session. The staff were really friendly too. I had a great day.”
Lindsey Davies, Cardiff West Community High School’s Year 7 Foundation Programme Leader, added: “Year 7 pupils from Cardiff West Community High School thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Dumballs Road campus of Cardiff and vale College. They were engaged in the activities throughout the day from coding with Lego robots to the marketing of cookies. It was also lovely to see the pupils create their excellent Ambition Jars which included their dreams and ambitions for the future.”
Cardiff and Vale College Vice Principal Sharon James said: “At CAVC we are committed to working with local schools and the wider community, in order to inspire people to make their dreams and aspirations a reality. It was wonderful having Cardiff West Community High School’s Year 7 pupils come in and explore what the future could have in store for them – they were a credit to their school and I hope that in years to come we will welcome them back as students of the College.”
