STUDENTS LEARN ART OF PUPPETRY
Performing Arts students from City of Wolverhampton College are learning the art of puppetry as they prepare to wow the audience in their annual show.
More than 30 youngsters from a range of Performing Arts courses have been picking up puppetry tips from TV puppeteer Richard Coombs as part of rehearsals for their end of year musical Avenue Q.
Richard, who has worked on everything from The Muppets and Spitting Image to the recent Star Wars film, spent two days with the students, teaching them how to make puppets come alive.
Richard said: “I would encourage everyone to come to the show because this group of young people are going to give a professional cast a run for their money. They are great singers and are getting very good with the puppets.”
Curriculum Manager Michael Dixon said: “This was a great opportunity for our students to learn from the experts and pick up new performance skills that will be especially helpful in staging their production in the Summer.
“They really enjoyed the workshops and I can’t wait to see how they use these techniques in the show.”
Avenue Q is an award winning musical exploring adulthood, in which most of the characters are puppets.
The show takes place at the Paget Road Campus on 28th, 29th and 30th June at 7pm. Tickets, costing £6 each, are available on the door.
