Last Friday (5th May) Amber Rudd came to visit International students at Sussex Coast College Hastings.

The Hastings and Rye prospective Parliamentary Candidate was invited to the college by the ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) students as a thank you for welcoming them to the Houses of Parliament earlier this year.

Amber Rudd spoke to 60 students, all from different nationalities, and told them about her role as the local MP and Home Secretary, and discussed topics including British Values, Democracy, Individual Liberty, Rule of Law, and Respect and Tolerance, which is part of their current studies.

The students dressed in traditional clothing to welcome Amber to the college and were able to have a question and answer session towards the end of the afternoon.

Otto Haas, School of English Manager, said: “We’re all delighted that Amber was able to take us up on our invitation to come and visit us at college. The students really enjoyed their visit to the Houses of Parliament and wanted to invite Amber to the college to thank her for looking after them while they were there.”

Amber Rudd said: “I was very pleased to visit Sussex Coast College to speak to ESOL students about our democracy and values. Their enthusiasm for learning more about our communities was fantastic to see and I wish them the very best for their future studies.”
