Would you like to be involved with supporting the production, delivery and maintenance of City & Guilds new reform qualifications in Electrical Installation?

We are looking for a Chief Examiner to join us in overseeing the production and maintenance of assessments with first assessment from September 2025 and beyond.

This is a senior role within our Electrical associate examining team.

As the Chief Examiner for the Technical Occupational Entry (OTQ) in Electrical Installation you will oversee the following assessments:

– X3 Level 3 Theory Exam which are onscreen multiple choice tests, that will be available on-demand
– X2 Level 3 Practical Assignments

The role will require input from you throughout the year as we produce and maintain the assessments.

All activity must take place within the UK with the potential to travel to London for meetings when required, although it is anticipated that most of the assessment production activity will take place remotely.

This role will oversee City & Guilds brand new Technical Occupational Entry (OTQ) in Electrical Installation. These qualifications are designed for adults with a purpose of achieving entry level competence into industry.

The qualification consist of on-demand, multiple-choice theory exams and on-demand assignments which assess the knowledge and skills from across the qualification.

The examination is an externally set multiple-choice exam, which is marked by City & Guilds (externally). The assignments are externally set, internally marked and externally verified.

This role does not have any responsibilities towards verification, however the Chief Examiner may be required to work closely with our EQAS to understand performance and feedback from centres.

Production of assessment materials:
The Chief Examiner oversees and quality assures a group of examiners who are responsible for the production of the assessment. They are responsible for ensuring we are setting appropriate and valid assessments which are consistent across the pathways.

They will be required to review assessments throughout the production process; key milestones of the production process will be shared at the point the content is commissioned, but this may have a variety of timescales attached.

The Chief Examiner will be required to attend the Assessment Material Evaluation Committees (AMECs) for each version produced, which are full day remote meetings. This activity will occur throughout the year. We aim to produce 3-4 versions of each assessment annually.

Maintenance of assessments:
The Chief Examiner is responsible for setting and maintaining standards across the qualification. The Chief Examiner leads their teams during standard setting activities, such as modified Angoff, to award grade boundaries.

As these assessments are available on-demand, all year around, the Chief Examiner is responsible for ensuring our assessments remain fit-for-purpose over time. This includes informing City & guilds of any industry changes which may impact the assessments, as well as analyzing and reviewing the performance of the tests. This activity will take place throughout the year.

Throughout the year, the Chief Examiner will also be on hand to support City & Guilds in responding to queries and feedback in relation to the assessments.

A full training and induction plan will be put in place for the successful applicant.
