Bricklaying Level 3 (OTQ) – Principal Examiner

Would you like to be involved with supporting the production, delivery and maintenance of City & Guilds new Level 3 Technical Occupation Entry in Bricklaying Diploma?

The Principal Examiner is a key part of the delivery of technical qualifications and is involved in every aspect of the assessment production process. The role will include taking a lead role in the assessment production for the externally assessed examination series. Working alongside other subject matter experts, writing and editing assessment content, and leading a team through the annual cycle of production and maintenance of assessments.

This examiner role gives you the opportunity to work alongside your current job, to build additional income with competitive daily rates, and to continue to develop your own skills and development.

All activity must take place within the UK with the potential to travel to London for meetings when required, although it is anticipated that most of the assessment production activity will take place remotely.

This role will oversee City & Guilds brand new Technical Occupational Entry (OTQ) in Bricklaying. These qualifications are designed for 16-19 and 19+ learners. This qualification is for those individuals who wish to gain the knowledge and skills required to commence a career within the Bricklaying sector.

Covering Level 3 topics such as:

• Health, safety, welfare and the environment

• Principles of Construction

• Principles of organising, planning and pricing of construction work

• Constructing decorative and reinforced brickwork

• Constructing radial and battered brickwork

You will oversee the production and maintenance of the following assessments:

X2 On-demand, online MCQ theory exams

The examination is an externally set multiple-choice exam, which is marked by City & Guilds (externally).

Production of assessment materials:

The Principal Examiner works alongside the Chief Examiner to oversee, and quality assure a group of associates who are responsible for the production of the assessment. The Principal Examiner is responsible for writing at least 1 of the MCQ theory exams, and supporting other writers.

The Principal Examiner will be required to commission and review assessments throughout the production process; key milestones of the production process will be shared at the point the content is commissioned, but this may have a variety of timescales attached.

The Principal Examiner will be required to attend the Assessment Material Evaluation Committees (AMECs) for each version produced, which are full day remote meetings. This activity will occur throughout the year. We aim to produce 3-4 versions of each assessment annually. Throughout the year, the Principal Examiner will also be on hand to support City & Guilds in responding to queries and feedback in relation to the assessments.

A full training and induction plan will be put in place for the successful applicant.
