London Learning Consortium welcomes two new Board Members

London Learning Consortium (LLC) benefits from a highly experienced Board of Non-Executive Directors (NEDs). The role of the Board is to set directions, establish policies, ensure accountability, and provide leadership that enhances development and supports learners at LLC. The Board draws a clear line between governance and management and operates at a strategic level.

The Board is made up of NEDs, the CEO and executive team and a staff representative. NEDs are appointed for a three-year period (after which they can be re-elected). They collectively bring a rich range of expertise, ensuring an appropriate balance of skills, knowledge and experience provides both support and constructive challenge.

We are proud to welcome our two newest Board Members, Elaine James, Vice Chair of the Board and Prof. Keith Straughan, PHD, Chair of the Board.

Elaine James is a business leader with over 20 years of corporate governance, social sector leadership, equality, diversity, and inclusion consulting experience. Elaine’s career has been focused on tackling the root causes of disadvantage, discrimination, and disengagement and is coupled with a drive to improve organisational governance systems and processes and build resilient organisations.

Elaine James, said “I am very pleased to join LLC as Vice Chair at this time. I am aware of the significant difference that gaining the right skills in the right environment can have on a learner’s future. 

As a NED and Vice Chair, I recognize the enormous challenge that further education providers face. My focus is to provide robust strategic direction, and leadership by example whilst ensuring that we deliver the best outcomes for our learners.”

Prof. Keith Straughan has enjoyed a long career in business and academia. His early research career focused on diagnostic imaging and he was fortunate enough to be on the team that commissioned the world’s first clinical MRI Scanner. 

Keith explains “I am thrilled and honoured to join LLC as its new Chair. LLC is such an exciting organisation with an important mission to equip people with the skills and insights needed to navigate an ever-complex world of employment and opportunity. It is a joy to be surrounded by a team of highly skilled and passionate professionals. I am truly excited about our journey ahead.”
