Online Consultation on National Numeracy Gender Taskforce’s Recommendations
September 13 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
The Gender Taskforce
Independent charity National Numeracy has been empowering the UK’s children and adults to improve their numeracy skills and confidence for the past 12 years. Numeracy skills are vital to thriving in everyday life, throughout our lives. National Numeracy’s recent research reveals:
-
Women display a much lower level of confidence as compared to men.
-
Women have more negative maths experiences at school than men, linked to lower levels of number confidence.
-
Women face more career challenges than men resulting from a lack of a maths qualification, particularly in terms of their earnings.
-
In addition, recent Teach First research found that 54% of British girls don’t feel confident learning maths, compared to 41% of boys.
As a result, the charity set up a Gender Taskforce with business, public sector and civil society leaders, to produce a set of recommendations for employers to address – and close – the gender number confidence gap.
About the event
Educators and education charities are invited to join a one-hour online event in order that their views are taken into account by the Taskforce. Your vital input is sought on the following:
-
The barriers to building number confidence for women and girls
-
Ideas for overcoming these barriers
-
The role of employers in tackling the gender number confidence gap
