Join Cherakee Bradley from the Edge Foundation and Kerry Senatore form the Careers and Enterprise Company for an insight into developing teachers careers knowledge and confidence through Teacher Externships & Teacher Encounters.
The Edge Foundation first saw the Teacher Externship programme in action on a study visit to Nashville. It was seen as an instrumental element to the development of creating curriculum content with real world context, using the employers that teachers made connections with to bring real world relevance to the classroom. Edge took this idea and developed a similar programme to deliver throughout the North East of England engaging schools and colleges with employers to help support Gatsby Benchmark 4 – Linking curriculum learning to careers, and to improve teachers/lecturers careers knowledge and confidence.
The Careers and Enterprise Company have now developed a national programme of Teacher Encounters, building on the government recommendations to provide teachers with opportunities to spend time in the business world, by providing an opportunity for teachers to see and learn about the different career pathways, to observe how their subject can be applied practically in business and how employers can add relevance within the curriculum and to increase confidence in holding careers conversations with students and parents, bringing careers into the mainstream of education.

Kerry Senatore will share the CEC’s programme experiences, insights, and learning points as they move into year 2 of the national programme.
