University Centre Newbury Students impressed by The Liquorice Press
University Centre Newbury (UCN) students on the Higher Nationals in Graphic Design programme got some real industry experience on a trip to The Liquorice Press in Basingstoke recently.
Robin Escott, the Managing Director of the Hampshire based business, gave students an extensive tour of their facilities, explaining and demonstrating how each piece of equipment works.
The Liquorice Press is a new generation of printers with an old-school passion for their trade, specialising in letterpress, foil, laser cutting, die-cutting, litho printing, and digital print.
Victoria Burden, Programme Leader Higher Nationals in Graphic Design, said:
“The trip was invaluable. It allowed students to understand the possibilities of print design and print finishes. The Liquorice Press are specialists in their field, and to see all the print pieces they have produced for clients and the possibilities filled us all with inspiration. The students learnt about technical considerations as well as considering costings. We are very grateful to Robin Escott for making us feel so welcome and spending time with the students.”
University Centre Newbury offers the opportunity to achieve your degree, or other higher-level vocational qualifications, locally. Working with industry experts and design agencies, students on the Higher Nationals in Graphic Design programmes benefit from valuable commercial experience, live briefs and real commissions.
The aim is to give the students the best experience, so they are prepared and ready for the workplace. Previous graduates have gained employment as Junior Graphic Designers or progressed to specialist universities for further study.
