157 Group publishes ‘doing more for less’ discussion

A new discussion paper was launched by the 157 Group yesterday featuring the views from colleges around the globe on common challenges they face every day.

The major points raised in the meeting were the up-hill struggle of having to do more with fewer resources; shared strategies; and insights into how they are rising to current issues in the FE sector.

This latest discussion paper is the product of a roundtable meeting, when the member colleges of RC-2020 united with 157 Group at Edexcel’s offices in London to participate in an international dialogue. The gathering took place in November 2010.

Lynne Sedgmore CBE, executive director of the 157 Group, said: “It was invaluable for our member colleges to work alongside the RC-2020 colleges and interesting to see that institutions from very different cultures share common challenges”.

The conference aimed to help both groups develop and produce solutions that will conquer future problems and issues within the sector.

Dr Rufus Glasper, president of RC-2020, said: “We recognise that these are challenging times for all these countries to become more effective and efficient, while at the same time being asked to be more productive. Doing more for less is the invaluable product of our insightful dialogue.”
