From education to employment

City College Norwich offer Free Online Vocational Courses for Employed Adult Learners in East Anglia

City College Norwich is now offering a range of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) online which enable employed people to update their skills and achieve a work-related qualification for free. The further education college based in Norwich has joined forces with Newcastle-based e-learning provider, Creating Careers Ltd. The company delivers a range of nationally-recognised qualifications through its e-learning service, vision2learn, including Team Leading, Customer Service Skills, Mastering Business Administration, Business-Improvement Techniques and iTQ – the NVQ for IT Users. These courses are available entirely online which means that people can study at work or from the comfort of their home. Award-winning Creating Careers, is the UK’s leading e-learning provider in further education. Vision2learn courses are fully funded by the Learning and Skills Council.  They are designed to help adult learners at all levels to achieve recognition for their existing skills and to learn new skills for career progression. The Team Leading course, for example, allows those already in a supervisory role to build upon their skills and open up opportunities to lead larger teams at work. Places are limited so anyone interested will need to act fast in order to secure a place on the vision2learn courses available with City College. In order to qualify, candidates must be 16 years or older, employed and must have lived in the EU for over three years.  Learners need the support of their employer, who must agree to an NVQ assessor visiting them in their workplace to check progress. Once assigned to the course at City College, students work through online study sessions and complete assessments on vision2learn’s interactive online study area. As part of the service, experienced online assessors are available to offer help and support throughout the course, enabling learners to work independently but with support when they need it.   In our rapidly-changing world, having a highly-skilled workforce is not an optional extra but an economic necessity. The government has committed to joining the world’s premier league for skills and in order to reach this goal, it has have invested £3bn into adult learning in the last seven years, which has so far helped more than 1.7 million people to gain literacy and numeracy qualifications. By 2020 the aim is for more than 90 per cent of adults to have gained at least a Level 2 qualification (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C). Over 60,000 people have already benefited from vision2learn’s online approach to learning, and now people living in East Anglia have the opportunity to gain these invaluable vocational qualifications. To register for a vision2learn online course please visit www.vision2learn.net or for more information about vision2learn or courses from Creating Careers, please contact Jonathan Ovenden, Business Development Director, Tel: 07730 402 653; email [email protected]; website: www.vision2learn.net.
