League Table finds Oxford reputed to be UK’s top University

As many students begin finding their university places through the clearing system, a new league table has found the University of Oxford to have the reputation of being the UK’s leading university.

The University of Cambridge was a close second in the league of national reputations complied by Push.co.uk, who have also published a league of international reputation. The international reputation league, though close in its finding to the national league, actually found Cambridge to be top and Oxford second. London’s Imperial College also figured well in the findings, having a slightly superior reputation to that of University College London, both internationally and nationally.

This is the first time that a statistical assessment of university reputations has been created, it was compiled using information from the Guardian, the Sunday Times, the Independent and Times Online.

Push are a respected provider of information for students looking to take the next step into university. They visit each university and 6th form college in the UK, gathering information to provide support and resources for students looking for university places.

The editor of Push, Johnny Rich, said: “Reputation is no guarantee of whether a university will be right for an individual, but there’s no denying prospective students and employers do consider it important. People should remember, however, that reputations are slow to change and are a blunt instrument when it comes to understanding what a university actually offers.”

With competition for good university places now tougher than ever, resources such as those provided by Push can be of great help to many students in making the right decisions at a crucial stage of their education. By Nathan Burgess
