Academy players trialled by Nike Football
Students at the
The Nike Mercurial Speed Test will take place on Wednesday 16 April at 10.30am on the sports field at MMU Cheshire’s Alsager Campus.
Around 40 students will be put through their paces by Nike representatives to see who is fastest in a 45 meter sprint and when dribbling a football.
The students will compete against other academy footballers from across the country as part of the nationwide search.
At the end of the regional trials, the fastest 40 youngsters will be invited to Manchester United’s football ground, Old Trafford, to compete for the top prize of £5000 and a host of exclusive Nike goodies.
MMU Coach Melvyn Wilkes believes that his students have what it takes to go far in the competition.
He said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Nike to take part in this national competition. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and hopefully some of them will make it through to the national final.”

The Academy has gone from strength to strength in recent years, winning the British Colleges Cup in 2006 and becoming champions of the West Midlands Colleges Premier League in the 2006/07 season.
