Finalists recognised for the business benefits of training

The Royal Navy, TUI Travels UK & Ireland and Veolia Environnement were today rewarded for their commitment to skills development, as the shortlist for the National Employers Service (NES) Employer of the Year award was revealed.

The Royal Navy, TUI Travels UK & Ireland and Veolia Environnement were today rewarded for their commitment to skills development, as the shortlist for the National Employers Service (NES) Employer of the Year award was revealed.

The (NES) Apprenticeship Learners First awards, part of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) recognises employers with over 5000 employees, for their investment in work-based training programmes. Individuals are also rewarded for outstanding achievement and overcoming difficulties.

Director of the NES, Hilary Chadwick, explained: “The ambition and commitment of these finalists is a real inspiration. Each one of the learners has demonstrated real drive and determination in their chosen careers and taken their own learning up a level to meet new challenges.

Employers and employees are competing in six categories: apprenticeship, advanced apprenticeship, Train to Gain, Skills for Life, Personal Achievement, and the NES Employer Award. The awards also recognise employers achievements and commitment to the Skills Pledge.

She continued, “I also want to thank and recognise the very significant achievements of these employers in designing and delivering some excellent in-house programmes. We congratulate all our finalists on their achievements to date and wish them all the very best at the awards.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at an awards ceremony at Alton Towers, on 3rd April 2008.
