FASHION STUDENT WINS LUCRATIVE COMPETITION WITH MISSGUIDED BRAND
Wigan & Leigh College student, Katie Macpherson has triumphed over thousands of entries to win the UNiDAYS fashion competition in conjunction with popular fashion label Missguided.
The BTEC Level 3 Fashion & Clothing student will now get the opportunity to work with a top designer at Missguided.com to produce her design to make available for sale.
Part of this amazing prize means she will get to earn a share of the profits for every sale and receive a whopping £1000 Missguided voucher as well as a £1000 cash prize from UNiDAYS.
The former Westhoughton High School pupil had to put her fashion skills to the test to design one of four product options. Katie decided to create a dress inspired by recent runways in a contemporary style.
“At first I didn’t think I’d won as it had been a while since I entered the competition. I then received the email. I’m quite surprised as I’m only 17, so it’s a big achievement for my age,” said Katie.
Her fashion tutors shared the competition as an interesting project to undertake during lockdown.
Course Leader for Level 3 Fashion, Karen Baldwin added:
“We are all so proud of Katie’s achievement. She has worked hard and developed her skills in all aspects of the course and her confidence has grown in the two years she has been with us.
“She is a great ambassador for the college and is on track for a bright future within the fashion industry!”
The future fashion starlet has ambitions of becoming a designer for a fashion house like Iris Van Herpen and Viktor & Rolf. She has received numerous university offers to carry on her progression at the likes of De Montfort University (renowned for its fashion courses) and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Katie added: “I designed the dress using adobe skills I have gained as part of my course. The skills I have learned at college have definitely helped and the tutors really do push us on. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be leaving with the knowledge I now have.”
