Annual Conference to Include Special Workshops in Zurich
“
In a move designed to continue to move forward with coaching and mentoring standards across Europe, the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) has announced the details of its 12th annual conference, taking place at the UBS conference centre in Zurich from 30th November to 2nd December 2005.
The EMCC aims to achieve an ongoing development, and the application of a widely agreed statement of ethical and professional standards in coaching and mentoring. The event will include plenary sessions with conference organiser Professor David Megginson and David Clutterbuck, discussing the findings of their latest books on current trends and practices in coaching and mentoring, and Peter Hawkins whose latest Open University (OU) book on Supervision will be the basis of his paper.
Talent in Coaching Talent
The programme could prove to give a significant boost to the coaching and mentoring community with its workshops focusing on a wide range of topics including team coaching, talent coaching and E-mentoring, as well as an exploration of the role of leaders and followers using ballroom dancing, and a look at discovering dreams and aspirations through poetry, sculpture and creating images with fabrics.
In the wake of a growing consumer need for coaching and mentoring services, there seems to be an identification of the specific needs required and devising the best available provisions. Other workshops include addressing blame and envy in the boardroom, the evaluation of developmental mentoring, and leaders as coaches. The organisers say there will also be opportunities to see how major organisations such as the BBC, Tesco, UBS, Unilever, HBOS and Lloyds TSB are using coaching and mentoring.
Talking about the effective contributions of the programme, David Megginson said: “The synergy at our conferences is always extraordinary, with professional coaches and mentors, corporate scheme organisers, voluntary sector, public service and academic researchers all mixing together and sharing their insights and enthusiasms.”
The main conference takes place on December 1 and 2, but a pre-conference event, including sessions from Nancy Kline, Sir John Whitmore, Liz Borredon and David Megginson, Bernd Schmidt and Jenny Rogers will take place on November 30th, 2005.
