Collaboration at the core of T Level Route Specific Training

@E_T_Foundation – The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has announced the dates of its highly anticipated Route Specific Training element of the T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer.

The Route Specific Training is designed for frontline staff and middle managers who are, or will be, delivering T Levels. The courses are based on a unique model, due to their integral input from the Centres for Professional Technical Education (CPTEs).

CPTEs are Further Education (FE) providers, supporting the delivery element of the TLPD offer – they are responsible for the design, development and delivery of the CPD for a T Level route, including the T Levels within it. The upcoming courses have been created with leading experts who have the requisite facilities, equipment, experience and industry links to pass onto other staff and strengthen their T Level delivery.

Paul Kessell-Holland, National Head of T Level Design and Higher Level Education at the Education and Training Foundation, said: “The way these courses have been designed – in collaboration and partnership with a range of teachers and settings, led from within the sector, – means providers and staff can have confidence they will meet their need for meaningful and effective professional development.

“Bringing the lived experience of teachers into CPD opportunities alongside evidence and research, by co-designing solutions wherever possible, provides a better chance of delivering support that will genuinely drive change.

“I highly recommend these courses to all T Level delivery staff. Although the impact of Covid-19 means the courses’ face-to-face, practical workshops are postponed, the ETF has been working to ensure participants are able to gain invaluable training and development through the upcoming live online events.

“We all – as teachers – have an individual experience to share as well as new skills to learn, and only together can we meet the challenges that will bring us a lot closer to our goals.”

Bookings for upcoming Route Specific Training can be made through the T Level section of the Professional Development Platform. Online, self-learning courses can be completed now through the platform, while the live online events started this week and will continue taking place across the next few months. 

The ETF is also looking to invite new CPTE partners. The role would support the lead CPTEs with the delivery and development of the Route Specific Training, offer an opportunity to determine course content, and raise provider’s profiles by contributing to courses and taking a lead position in the national discourse surrounding T Levels and Technical Education. Interested providers are encouraged to contact the ETF’s team of Regional Facilitators.

The ETF, the expert body for professional development and standards in Further Education and Training in England, has been supporting the delivery of T Levels since 2019. In February 2020, the ETF was awarded a four-year contract by the Department for Education to continue to support providers, leaders and practitioners to deliver the new courses.
