From education to employment

The Confederation of Education Consultants

Patrick Tucker

The Confederation of Education Consultants has been developed to highlight the need to provide quality assurance for the growing number of consultants within Education.

The purpose and work of consultants is a much needed and specialist area within the whole educational and skills sector. Consultants support the sector in many different specialist spheres including, Bid Writing, Governance, Policy and Procedures. They do this along with providing must needed industry knowledge, especially to those organisations that are new to the sector.

Consultants work alongside organisations and help them to ensure that they are compliant and that they act in a manner that ensures the correct use of public funding. The DFE and other arms of education receive assurity from organisations such as Ofqual, Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, Ofsted and others. However the role and conduct of Consultants within the sector is often ignored, and is unregulated.

The Confederation of Education Consultants (CEC) has been formed to provide confidence to the sector. CEC members commit to conduct themselves in accordance with the group’s Ten Guiding Principles., They also commit to have in place other safeguards, such as relevant insurance, ICO registration and appropriate references.

In order to become a member of CEC, applicants will need to complete an application process. They must also commit to the organisation’s Guiding Principles, all aimed at giving confidence to the individual client and sector as a whole.

Initially, membership of CEC will be free. The organisation is not looking to generate an income or profit from its assurance measures. It merely seeks to ensure that the standard of consultancy within the sector are of the highest possible standard.
