A commitment to developing the employability skills of people in the East Midlands has won Nottingham-based Access Training Ltd (@accesstraining) a prestigious award from East Midlands Chamber’s annual awards programme.

It was crowned winner of the Education and Business Partnership (Nottinghamshire) category. Sponsored by Nottingham University Business School, the Award was established to recognise those who work with local businesses and who help learners develop crucial employability skills.

On announcing Access Training as the Award winner, Professor Duncan Angwin, Dean of Nottingham University Business School, commented,

“Choosing a winner was challenging but Access Training showed they had made a major difference to employability in the region through education and long-term sustainable commitment to career progression.”

Of particular note to the judging panel were three key factors: the strength of Access Training’s submission which was backed up with lots of evidence; their sustainable business model; and their clear commitment to lifelong learning.

Corrina Hembury, Managing Director of Access Training, adds,

“We’re ecstatic to have won this award and receive this recognition for the support we offer to learners and employers across Nottinghamshire. This award highlights what we have achieved over the last year ensuring the pandemic never stood in the way of learning.

“We know that Covid and its aftermath are going to leave deep scars to our economy, with the poorest areas of the country hit the hardest. Nottingham is in the top ten most deprived local authorities in the country according. Across our region in fact, many of our learners are under-privileged in their educational and economic backgrounds. That makes us doubly committed to making sure we boost employability of local people by getting them back into work and helping them develop new skills for new careers.”
