Principal and CEO of the East London Institute of Technology appointed to Green Jobs Taskforce
The Principal and CEO of the East London Institute of Technology, Yvonne Kelly has been appointed to the government’s new #GreenJobsTaskforce.
The UK government launched the taskforce last week to support its drive for 2 million green jobs by 2030.
The Green Jobs Taskforce is to set the direction for the job market as the UK transitions to a high-skill, low carbon economy. The Taskforce, which will be chaired by Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng and Skills Minister Gillian Keegan, forms part of the government’s ambitious plan to build back greener and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Its aim will be to focus on the immediate and longer-term challenges of delivering skilled workers for the UK’s transition to net zero.
The taskforce met for the first time on Thursday 12 November and represents the views of businesses, employees and the skills sectors and includes representatives from the Construction Industry Training Board, Engineering Construction Industry Training Board, East London Institute of Technology, Retrofit Works, Edinburgh University and National Grid.
It will assess how the UK jobs market and the skills sector will adapt to support net zero, developing ideas and solutions for how the UK can deliver the green jobs of the future. The taskforce will create an action plan to inform on what support is needed for people in transitioning industries.
Ms Kelly, who is also Principal of Barking & Dagenham College, commented:
“I’m delighted to be part of this important taskforce. Further education colleges and the country’s new Institutes of Technology, which specialise in delivering higher technical education, will play a vital role in ensuring we help people to gain the skills they need to secure employment in high quality green jobs.”
